Light Novel: Volume 20 Episode 16
Manhwa: N/A

Eunyo asked,

“What about blood?”

“We need to replenish it with someone else’s blood.”

“Is that even possible? To give one’s blood to another?”

“Yes, it’s possible!”

“Really…”

Eunyo clammed up at the divine doctor’s firm response.

Such a thing was impossible according to her common sense.

The divine doctor continued,

“I can’t explain it in words, but each person’s blood has different blood types. Blood compatibility matters. If you inject blood of a different nature, it would only cause more harm than good.”

“So, what do we do?”

“Normally, I would have used herbs to distinguish the nature of the blood and determine blood compatibility, but there are no such herbs here.”

The divine doctor furrowed his brow.

At the Qi Family Medical Hall in Shaoyang, it wouldn’t be difficult to distinguish the nature of blood. However, such herbs were not available here.

Among himself, Eunyo, Nam Shin-woo, and Do Yeonsan, there was no way to know whose blood would be compatible with Pyo-wol’s. Transfusing the wrong blood could hasten Pyo-wol’s demise.

After pondering for a moment, the divine doctor looked at Nam Shin-woo.

“I think we should use your blood.”

“What? Mine?”

“Yes!”

Nam Shin-woo possessed almost immortal-like abilities.

The divine doctor believed that Nam Shin-woo’s abilities originated from his blood. Some components in his blood must be responsible for maximizing his regenerative abilities.

If it was Nam Shin-woo’s blood, even if it was of a different nature, it should still somehow be able to trigger Pyo-wol’s regeneration.

“What do you think?”

“I’ll give you my blood.”

Nam Shin-woo answered without hesitation.

If it weren’t for Pyo-wol, he would have died long ago.

If he could save him, he was willing to give not just his blood, but even his life.

The divine doctor said,

“Then let’s start. Roll up your sleeve and lie down next to Pyo-wol.”

“Yes!”

Nam Shin-woo obediently did as he was told.

The divine doctor took out a bundle of cloth from his chest.

Unfolding the bundle of cloth revealed two acupuncture needles and a hollow reed wrapped in leaves.

The divine doctor stuck the acupuncture needles on both ends of the hollow reed.

Before inserting the needle into Nam Shin-woo’s arm, he spoke to Do Yeonsan and Eunyo,

“You guys stay outside. Don’t let anyone enter while I perform the procedure.”

“Understood!”

“Okay.”

The two replied and went outside.

They knew the gravity of the situation. From now on, they had to ensure that not even a single ant could approach.

After the two had left, the divine doctor inserted the needle into Nam Shin-woo’s arm vein. Then he inserted the other needle on the other end into Pyo-wol’s arm.

Nam Shin-woo’s blood began flowing through the reed into Pyo-wol’s body.

The divine doctor reassured Nam Shin-woo,

“It won’t take too long, so just bear with it.”

“I’m fine.”

“How admirable.”

“If it weren’t for Brother Pyo-wol, I wouldn’t even be alive today. I met my master because of him too. Brother is my savior. I can give not just my blood but even my life for him.”

“No need for your life. I only need a bit of your blood to act as a primer.”

“Okay!”

Even as he spoke, the divine doctor continued to calculate the amount of blood flowing from Nam Shin-woo’s body.

More would be better, but taking too much could harm him. On the other hand, taking too little would not be enough to revitalize and bolster Pyo-wol’s weakened life force.

The divine doctor kept an eye on Pyo-wol’s condition.

If Pyo-wol showed any signs of rejection, he would have to remove the needle immediately. But so far, he hadn’t seen any adverse reactions.

Nevertheless, the divine doctor remained vigilant.

Sometimes, even if there was no rejection at first, it would come after a while.

Luckily, the process of transfusing Nam Shin-woo’s blood into Pyo-wol went smoothly.

The divine doctor removed the needles that connected the two men’s blood vessels.

Nam Shin-woo stood up, rubbing his arm.

“Is it done?”

“For now!”

“Is there anything else I can do to help?”

“It’s enough that you shared your blood. I’ll handle everything from now on. Go outside and help the other two.”

“Yes!”

Nam Shin-woo replied and went outside.

The divine doctor looked at Pyo-wol for a moment.

Some color had returned to his corpse-pale face. But it wasn’t enough.

As he had told Nam Shin-woo earlier, they had only managed to provide a primer. Something more was needed to save him.

The divine doctor took out a wooden box from the cloth bundle.

Inside the box were hundreds of fine silver needles, so thin they were almost invisible to the naked eye.

The divine doctor picked one of the needles and muttered to himself,

“Life and Death Returning Soul Technique!1 That’s the only thing I can rely on.”

It was a legendary technique that could revive someone on the brink of death, as long as they had a breath left in them.

The divine doctor had traveled the world to perfect this acupuncture technique.

Although he was known as the divine doctor now, before him, there were others who bore that title.

Those who possessed medical skills that almost seemed god-like.

But even those masters faded with time. So, the divine doctor collected their techniques one by one during his travels and perfected them into a method known as the Life and Death Returning Soul Technique.

But to perform the Life and Death Returning Soul Technique, a special elixir was required.

Fortunately, the divine doctor had such an elixir in his possession.

It didn’t make sense for someone like him, a divine doctor, not to have at least one extraordinary elixir.

He took out a cherished elixir pill that he had carefully preserved until now.

The pill, named the Hundred Spirit Primordial Spirit Pill,2 was made using a hundred different herbs.

Each of the one hundred herbs was rare and hard to come by in the world and the divine doctor had only managed to produce three of these pills.

The divine doctor opened Pyo-wol’s mouth and administered the Hundred Spirit Primordial Spirit Pill.

Upon contact with his saliva, the pill dissolved like water and flowed down Pyo-wol’s throat.

“I don’t know if this will be your doom or salvation.”

After the blood transfusion from Nam Shin-woo and now with the administration of the Hundred Spirit Primordial Spirit Pill, combined with the Life and Death Returning Soul Technique, even the divine doctor couldn’t predict the outcome.

“Hoo!”

After letting out a short sigh, the divine doctor began to insert acupuncture needles all over Pyo-wol’s body.

If even a single needle was placed even slightly off its intended position, it would be disastrous. Therefore, the divine doctor concentrated intensely as he meticulously inserted each needle. Thus, the Life and Death Returning Soul Technique began.

* * *

Eunyo looked around the village.

It was so remote that it didn’t even have a name. Not many people knew of this place. However, it wasn’t completely isolated.

To Eunyo, the place seemed somewhat intermediate.

Had Pyo-wol’s injuries been less severe, they would have met the divine doctor here and then moved to another location. But given the gravity of Pyo-wol’s condition, they had no choice but to stay here for at least a day.

Even though they had managed to shake off the Blood Wraiths, they couldn’t rest easy.

They could never be sure when they might be tracked down again.

Eunyo then said,

“We need to set up a formation.”

“What should I prepare?”

Do Yeonsan asked, as if he expected it.

“I’m going to set up a maze formation. I will need seventy-two well-sharpened wooden poles.”

“Got it.”

Do Yeonsan dashed to a nearby forest and began chopping down slender trees.

With a few strokes, the tree, about the size of his forearm, was stripped of all its branches and trimmed smoothly.

Meanwhile, Nam Shin-woo, who had come outside, asked Eunyo,

“Sister, what should I do?”

“Keep watch for any unusual activities outside. If you detect anything suspicious, come back and report immediately.”

“Understood.”

Nam Shin-woo climbed like a squirrel up a tall tree nearby.

Despite having donated a significant amount of blood to Pyo-wol, he showed no signs of aftereffects.

Eunyo was proud of Nam Shin-woo for his resilience.

Soon, Do Yeonsan returned, carrying an armful of the wooden poles Eunyo had requested.

Eunyo took one of the poles.

Then she stood in front of the house and looked at the front.

Eunyo, who had lost her eyesight due to the influence of a grand technique from the Xiaoleiyin Temple, gained a ‘mind’s eye’ instead.

The world she saw with her mind’s eye was very different from the world normal people usually see with their eyes.

The world she saw was made up of light and flow rather than physical shapes.

The light represented the essence of things, and the flow was the movement of qi originating from that essence.

Everything in existence had an essence and a flow.

This applied even to the earth itself.

There were places where the energy was unusually strong.

In such places, there was always bright energy and a vigorous flow.

At first, Eunyo didn’t understand what this meant, but now she was sure and knew how to utilize it.

If one could use the flow of qi well, one could create various harmonies– which was the essence of formation techniques.

Formation techniques involved slightly altering the harmony between heaven and earth using human effort.

While ordinary people might spend a lifetime mastering these techniques, Eunyo didn’t need to.

It was because she could see the flow of qi.

Thud!

Eunyo planted the first pole into a place where the flow of qi was particularly strong.

She saw how the flow of qi changed.

She then placed the second pole where the flow changed.

This caused another change in the flow of qi again.

Eunyo manipulated the flow using poles.

No formation master in the world could deploy formations like her.

For now, she could only unleash the formation techniques she had learned in the Xiaoleiyin Tempple, but as her cultivation deepened, she would eventually be able to deploy far more complex and deadly formations.

Eunyo methodically planted the poles one after another.

When she had planted about forty of them, a light mist gradually began to form around her. This was a phenomenon that usually occurred upon the manifestation of a formation.

The fact that this was already happening even before the completion of the formation meant that Eunyo’s placement of the poles was precisely targeting the core points.

Once the maze formation was complete, the mist became even thicker.

The dense fog not only engulfed the house where Pyo-wol was being treated but also the entire village.

In the blink of an eye, the entire village was shrouded in mist, effectively vanishing from sight.

“Hoo!”

Eunyo finally let out a sigh of relief.

If it were just about placing poles according to the flow of qi, it wouldn’t have been so exhausting.

But the depth at which each pole was planted varied, as did the extent of inner strength loaded into them. Thus, Eunyo felt a temporary drain of energy after deploying the formation.

Eunyo leaned forward for a moment, breathing heavily.

Do Yeonsan walked over to Eunyo and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

“Are you okay?”

“It’s nothing I can’t handle.”

“You’ve worked hard.”

“Yeah!”

“I just hope there are no pursuers.”

“That would be for the best.”

Eunyo said, straightening her back.

Despite having exerted herself to set up the formation, not having to use it was the ideal scenario.

She hoped that time would pass without any incident.

“You’ve worked hard, so take a rest.”

“How about you?”

“I have something to do.”

“What?”

“I think I need to study some more.”

Eunyo blinked in surprise at Do Yeonsan’s unexpected response.

Do Yeonsan smiled, finding her reaction cute.

“Until now, I’ve been using the power of the Ghost King without much thought. I didn’t have to think about it, since I can just draw it out when I want to.”

Before having his body taken over by the Ghost King, Do Yeonsan didn’t know a single thing about martial arts.

He had obtained great power without understanding the principles of martial arts.

It was like giving a child a butcher’s knife.

Fortunately, until now, all his opponents were inferior to him. He could overpower them with his reckless attacks, so he never bothered to think deeply.

But recently, his thoughts had changed.

The level of the warriors he faced had dramatically increased. His reckless attacks no longer worked against them.

That’s when Do Yeonsan started to worry.

How could he properly utilize the power the Ghost King had left in his body?

“Honestly, I don’t know how much I can utilize from what I’m about to learn, but I have to try something. I can’t just sit back and be defeated.”

“That’s a great idea.”

“Do you think so?”

“You might not know what you’ll gain, but start anyway. If something happens, the maze formation should buy us some time.”

Eunyo’s smile gave Do Yeonsan confidence.

“Yes!”

He immediately sat down cross-legged.

Eunyo watched him and thought to herself,

‘Yes! Persistently seeking knowledge like that will surely yield something.’

It was up to her and Nam Shin-woo to hold the fort until Do Yeonsan made some progress.
